Smart Sensory
Kenya
Smart Sensory Ltd is a woman-owned social enterprise co-founded by Keren Makari, building the infrastructure for inclusive childhoods in East Africa. Smart Sensory is creating an accessible and environmentally sustainable ecosystem for neurodevelopmental care, supporting children and families affected by sensory processing challenges and neurodevelopmental conditions, including Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD.
At the heart of its model is circular local manufacturing: transforming textile waste and other upcycled materials into affordable therapy kits, sensory products and inclusive spaces, while reducing waste and dependence on carbon-intensive imported equipment. Combined with caregiver and professional training as well as partnerships with schools and healthcare institutions, Smart Sensory integrates circularity, local production and disability inclusion to build a greener and more inclusive system of neurodevelopment care.
Through RAMA Impact’s financial and non-financial support, Smart Sensory aims to achieve a 120% revenue growth., increase production capacity from approximately 100 to 240 therapy kits per month, expand to 7 new counties in Kenya with an initial presence in Uganda. The enterprise will strengthen its circular manufacturing model by scaling recycled textile inputs to 400 kg per month, refurbishing 30+ kits monthly and developing a zero-waste roadmap while creating 5 additional full-time jobs, predominantly for women, over an 18 months period.
