Western Silk Road
Uganda
Western Silk Road is a woman-owned Ugandan agribusiness founded by Sandra Ejang Elobu, operating across the sustainable beekeeping and honey value chain through its brands Asali Wa Moyo Honey, Sweetheart Honey and Azza Naturals. The enterprise works with a network of over 500 smallholder farmers, approximately 80% women and 60% youth, connecting rural beekeepers to formal markets through productive beehives, training, honey aggregation, processing, traceability and distribution. Its products are currently distributed through approximately 80 retail stores in Uganda, while its sustainable beekeeping model supports rural livelihoods, women’s economic participation, biodiversity and pollination.
Through RAMA Impact’s catalytic financing and non-financial support, Western Silk Road aims to achieve a 10% revenue growth, create 16 total jobs, onboard 500 smallholder beekeepers with at least 60% women, increase participating farmers’ incomes by 5%, reduce post-harvest losses by 5%, train 100 farmers, deploy 400 beehives, establish digital traceability for 100% of participating farmers, and distribute 5,000 Calliandra seedlings to strengthen pollinator habitats, soil health and climate resilience, over a period of 10 months.
