Genuine Organic Millers
Uganda
Genuine Organic Millers is a woman-led social enterprise co-founded by Dianah Namatovu in Mbarara City in Uganda. Genuine Organic Millers is addressing critical challenges faced by smallholder farmers – particularly women and youth- including high post-harvest losses, unreliable markets and low incomes due to limited value addition and weak supply chains. To tackle these issues, the enterprise has developed an inclusive agro-processing model that sources maize directly from over 600 farmers (68% of whom are women and youth), provides training in good agronomic & sustainable practices, and processes the grain into certified and affordable maize flour and animal feed for the community.
Through RAMA Impact’s financial and non-financial support, Genuine Organic Miller will scale its impact by achieving a 10-15% increase in revenue, increasing its milling capacity by 10-15%, creating at least 2 additional jobs within the enterprise, onboarding 10 additional women farmers and train them in regenerative agriculture practices, while supporting waste reduction by converting corn residues into animal feed – reducing waste by 40 tons and avoiding 60 tons of CO₂ emissions, over a six-month period.
